Springfield Newspapers Inc. photographer Betty Love poses for a portrait with her camera. Love first began working for Springfield newspapers as an illustrator and cartoonist, and later filled in as a photographer during WWII while many of the male photographers went overseas. Love taught herself how to use a camera, and process the images using darkroom techniques. Love worked for over 30 years in Springfield newspapers and a picture of hers was the first color photograph published by Springfield Newspapers Inc. Upon her retirement in 1975, the Springfield Art Museum held an exhibition of 150 of her photographs. Love was also among charter members of the National Press Photographers Association and was also one of five original inductees into the Missouri Journalism Hall of Fame. This photograph was published in the Springfield News & Leader on December 7, 1947.
